Proof that the ban on smoking in public places is having a positive impact was realised today when rates of smoking amongst 16 to 24 year old was released today. There are now less young adults smoking than in the last 20 years.

Smoking causes several health problems, but by far the most deadly is lung cancer, which is still very hard to treat. Most people that develop lung cancer are already in an advanced stage (stage 4) before diagnosis is made. Usually a smokers cough results in coughing up blood and then a trip to the hospital reveals cancer.

So, good news that government intervention on smoking is working. Now time to make more changes, remove cigarette from more shops, implement new licences for the selling of tobacco products?
