Surgical Scar Revision Treatment

This technique uses the skin capability of stretching with time. It works by removing the scar and rejoining the skin in an area of the body or face that is less visible. Surgical removal works best on wide or long scars, those in prominent areas or scars with an exact pattern or silhouette. Long and wide scares can be reduced and thinned when they are cut out and closed again improving the appearance of the skin. An irregular or staggered incision line may be used instead of a straight line incision, in order to form a broken line scar, making it more difficult to be noticed. In some occasions the scar can be disguised by being redirected, falling into a normal wrinkle or line. This technique can also move a scar to a less obvious place whenever possible, such as the hairline or a natural junction, like the area where the nose meets the cheek. In order to get the best results from surgical scar revision, after removing the scarred tissue the normal skin should be brought together without tension or pulling.
