WHO issues Europe measles warning

It seems that the predictions of a measles epidemic caused by the irrational refusal to take MMR may not have been so far fetched. The World Health Organisation has today issued a warning that measles is reaching pandemic proportions.

So far in 2011 there have been over 26,000 reported cases of measles in Europe. 14,000 of the cases were in France alone, with most cases being reported in Western Europe.

Measles can be fatal, so far 9 people have died from the disease this year. There have already been 1000 cases in England and Wales also, which is 3 times more than last year.

Measles is a completely preventable disease, however, in the last decade many people were never innoculated or vaccinated due to the MMR scandal.

The WHO are urging European government to take action and make a real effort to increase vaccinations. Even though the doctor behind the false MMR scare has been stripped off his right to practice medicine, some people still think that MMR will harm their babies, so do not vaccinate. It is outrageous that one piece of poor research could cause a whole region of the world fear vaccination against a deadly disease.

If you or your child missed our on an MMR vaccination then you are at risk of catching measles. If you catch measles you could be hospitalised, and worse still, it could kill you. Get a vaccine. Call your GP surgery today.

  1. I personally think they should put more money into research about measles vaccinations. Instead of people risking their live to catch Measles that can be deadly, However a similar incident happened with the flu epidemic. The united states issue free flu shots for everyone without research people died of the shot brain damage etc..It is always better to try

  2. the measles vaccine is safe. It has been used for decades without any problem. The benefits of vaccination are well known and the risks of catching measles include disability and brain damage. Vaccination saves around 1.4 million lives every year. It is always worse in communities where people refuse to get vaccinated on religious grounds or some other irrational reason.

Measles kills. Measles vaccine is safe. Don’t be stupid and ignore it!
